I'm Kevin Lam, or as I’m often known online, urfd. Originally from Hong Kong, I've made Brisbane, Australia my home. My current role is at Nightjar Studio.
My passion lies in uncovering distinct brand stories and transforming them into memorable experiences. Much like a good friend, I prioritize listening and understanding before diving into the nuances that make each project resonate.
Highlighted Projects
Odyssée Clinic
Branding and Website Design
Odyssée Clinic is a medical aesthetics facility in Sydney, designed to emphasize a journey of aesthetics that prioritizes understanding the patient’s needs before any treatments. This initiative, undertaken during my time at Nightjar Studio, focused on creating branding that conveyed empathy and care rather than a transactional experience.
Key Challenges: It was essential to design a brand that felt inviting rather than cold, steering clear of the stereotypical cosmetic clinic vibe. We aimed for an atmosphere where patient trust and communication were central to the design.
Personal Reflection: I particularly enjoyed this project as it allowed me to apply my skills in 3D design meaningfully, creating elements that added depth without overwhelming the overall brand identity.

Sam Thies
Branding and Website Design
Brisbane-based photographer Sam Thies required a website that functions not merely as a portfolio, but as a narrative, illustrating the journeys behind his images. Rather than opting for a conventional layout, we aimed to craft an experience where each project unfolds like a story.
Key Challenges: The design had to maintain a sense of presence without diminishing the impact of Sam’s photography. Each design element needed to complement and enhance his work without overwhelming it.
Personal Reflection: I found fulfillment in creating a space where the artist's vision could take center stage. The grid layout, full-bleed images, and understated typography were intentionally chosen to cultivate an atmosphere that felt like a serene gallery.

FolkTale
Branding and Website Design
FolkTale is a design-focused real estate agency that aims to provide character-driven insights into properties, steering away from typical real estate terminology to create more human-centered narratives about homes.
Key Challenges: The brand needed to remain heartfelt and narrative-driven, yet functional enough to serve its real estate purpose effectively.
Personal Reflection: This project was rich with exploration, identifying the nuances that make a space feel like home. The design embraced lived-in details and employed an editorial approach that balanced warmth with a straightforward tone.
Veil Obscura
Branding and Website Design
Veil Obscura documents a spectacular natural phenomenon in Australia, with a design approach that allows the narrative to unfold peacefully, presenting clarity and a sense of awe.
Key Challenges: Crafting a design system that aligned with the narrative without overshadowing it was critical. The rich visuals demanded a minimalist approach to give audience space to engage with the story.
Personal Reflection: What I took from this project was the power of restraint in design. Sometimes, the most impactful experiences arise when we allow the story to take center stage, unfolding gradually.
